I recently decided to see how large I could go and still stay within the 55 lb weight limit of the AMA.

I have also decided to explain this build fully step by step so that I can try to teach those people that think that more wood and thicker wood is needed to make a strong airframe. I have seen guys build birds slightly enlarged and the weight of their planes shoot up astronomically from what the original scale weight was.

For example I have seen 35 lb 5th scale planes get built at 1/4 scale and end up weighing 70 lb's !!!!!!!!!! this in my opinion is rediculous, and sorry if I hurt anyones feelings, but to me it means the person is not an adequate enough builder to be redesigning and building the plane in the first place.

As Usual my Laser cutter is Jesse at Laser Lizard and I hope to have my kit in the next week or two . I have chosen for this task the Jerry Bates Brewster Buffalo which I have redesigned and enlarged to full 1/3 scale.

Jerry has some excellent designs that are not overdesigned and he does some great research before even starting his designs. You can see his plans at http://www.scaleaero.com/jerrybates.htm and find something you like and help support one of our great designers. I am also going to be putting up all my reference on this site so that anyone wanting to build a Buff even at a smaller scale has all they need to build a truely scale competition piece.
